I thought this pic of them walking together was really sweet
Attempting to sled in the driveway, but a Rubbermaid lid was all we could find for our "sled" and surprisingly, it didn't work that well.
Will doesn't love the snow as much as Catherine. After about 30-45 minutes, he was cold and wet and totally over the whole thing! Catherine was having a blast though, so Mommy took Will inside while Daddy stayed out and played with Catherine.
Welcome to life with The Hatten Family! We are living and loving the family God has blessed us with--the joys, struggles, laughter, and excitement of five little ones.

Snow!!
We got about 3 inches of snow last night. It's that really nice powdery snow (much better than the ice we usually get). We took the kids out this morning to play in the snow.

We had lots of fun and now we're watching the snow melt.

Will's Big boy room
Will moved into his big boy room this week. I've been slowly working on it for the past 2 months or so. I wanted to move him into his new bed and space with plenty of time before the baby comes. I don't want him to feel like he got kicked out of his crib and someone else immediately was in there. We've had lots of fun decorating his room. He loves balls and sports, so we went with that theme.
Here's the before picture of the room--blue walls with strange blue border (let's just say it included possums and hippos in bathing suits....)
Here's the after---a great boy room! We went with khaki walls and a fun horizontal red stripe on 2 walls that lead down into the dormer area. Here's the before picture of the room--blue walls with strange blue border (let's just say it included possums and hippos in bathing suits....)
Fun sports bedding, but not overdoing it. We had some great baseball and golf prints of Jay's that we used in there and a fun sports lamp he got for Christmas.
His table and chairs and reading nook. He also really likes the hooks on the wall where he hangs his keys, watch, and bag.
He's been playing in there for weeks now, but we just started him sleeping in there a few nights ago. He has done great!! He hasn't gotten up at all at night. He thinks it's really fun to sleep on his pillow. He has asked about sleeping in his crib a few times, but I just tell him that he's a big boy and big boys sleep in beds. He says "alright" and moves on with it. I can't believe he's already this big though. And now to get the nursery ready for baby #3....

Introducing baby Jasper
I'm excited to introduce my nephew! Jasper Michael Shropshire was born today (Jan 26) around lunch time. He weighs 7 lbs 11 oz and is 19 1/2 inches long. Everyone is recovering well, just a little tired after a long night. Welcome to the family Jasper! We are super excited to have another boy and so thankful for God's blessing.
A little rest in Mexico
Jay and I were in Mexico this past weekend. We stayed at a resort called the Paradissus about 25 minutes from Cancun. It was a trip hosted through his Northwestern agency for meeting a certain goal for 2009. It was great to have a few days to enjoy the warm sunshine and rest. We also enjoyed spending some time with other agents Jay works with.
Beautiful beaches, nice 85 degree sunshine
This was the restaurant where we ate most of our meals--right on the beach with a great ocean breezeBeautiful beaches, nice 85 degree sunshine
We didn't do too much--a lot of sitting by the pool and reading books. I read Through Gates of Splendor by Elisabeth Elliott and The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown.
This is our 30 week pregnancy shot--getting close to the new baby coming!
It's great to go away on trips, but we were both really excited to get back home to Catherine and Will too. I'm already excited for next year's trip. I could get spoiled going somewhere warm every January!

Rolling, Rolling, Rolling
Catherine and Will had their first experience on roller skates on Friday night. We celebrated my neices' birthdays at the skate center in Union. Maddyson turned 8 and Kennedy is 2. I wasn't sure how the roller skating would go, but they both loved it! Catherine did more of the roller-shuffle and was just as happy to run around in her tennis shoes. Will figured out that if he put his legs out straight and someone was holding his hands, his legs would slide out from under him. He thought this was great! He was also very good at the hokey pokey and limbo in his roller skates and cried when it was time to take them off at the end of the night.
Excited to give them a try

Catherine has also been learning to ride her bike by herself. Thankfully we had a warmer Saturday and she could go outside and practice in the driveway. (We have just been riding around in the living room.) She really has caught on well and is doing great at manuevering all around. We'll have lots of fun outside this spring with bikes, scooters, big wheels, etc.
