Do you ever wish you could just push the pause button on life for a minute? Wish you could take a break from the every-day activities of life to complete all those other things on your to-do list?
Here's what I would do if I had a pause button today (in no particular order):
- steam clean the carpets
- finish Christmas shopping
- paint the basement
- organize all the rubbermaid storage containers of kids clothes
- plant flowers
- have a really long devotional and prayer time
- put pictures in photo albums
- mop the floors
- dust the bookshelves
- paint the laundry room
- try a new recipe
- do a craft (can't believe i said that--Pinterest has invaded my brain)
- paint at our church's missions house
- plant flowers (on an unlimited budget)
- spend uninterrupted time with my husband and children
But I can't find the pause button. So I just try to squeeze these things in among the normal routine of laundry, dishes, groceries, school, phone calls, emails, crying, laughing, boo-boos, snacks, meals, and whatever else presents itself as urgent.
My daily prayer: "Lord, help me to prioritize." There's a great article I read once about fighting the tyranny of the urgent. Check it out; it's very helpful:

Until I find a pause button, I'll keep trying to find the balance.
